Frequently Asked Questions

I want to become member of SGI Global Developer Program. What do I need to do?
Any Software developer can become member of SGI Global Developer Program. To get started:

  • Complete the membership application
  • Complete the membership Agreement for the Developer level you have selected and mail or fax it back to SGI. (Note: for the Developer Plus program, you will receive the membership Agreement after your application has been approved.)

I completed the membership application and mailed the membership Agreement to SGI. How can I access information and download patches for Developers?
Downloads and information resources are published on the Supportfolio. At any time, you can create an account on Supportfolio with Guest entitlements.

  • To create your Supportfolio account, go to the Supportfolio site and select your User Name and Password.
  • Log in to Supportfolio, and update your information in "My Profile" and "System Management."

When SGI receives your application and signed Agreement form, you will be sent a confirmation e-mail and your entitlements will be upgraded to the Developer level. Supportfolio uses your name, e-mail, and phone number (submitted on your membership application) to recognize you as a confirmed member. Access will be granted with appropriate entitlements (Developer Online or Developer Plus).

Which level of membership should I choose?
If you developed an application on non-SGI hardware and you only want to certify the application as executable on an SGI system, you can select the Developer Online membership level. If you developed an application for commercial resale, and you plan to purchase SGI hardware with Developer discounts or anticipate needing support from SGI to optimize your application on SGI hardware, you can choose Developer Plus membership level.

What are the costs of the participation in SGI Global Developer Program?
Both membership levels are free of charge.

I plan to purchase an SGI Linux-based system and want to get support for a Novell or Red Hat operating system. Can SGI provide such support, including OS updates?
Per Novell and Red Hat, join the Novell DeveloperNet or Red Hat Developer Connection to get new versions of SLES or RHEL and support.

I signed up for the Developer Plus program and I develop on the IRIX OS. How can I get the latest MIPS compilers?

I signed up for the Developer Plus program and I develop on Linux. How can I get the latest Intel compilers?
You can purchase the latest Intel Compilers from SGI, or directly from Intel.

How can I get help with porting my application to SGI hardware?
If you are a Developer Online member, you can search all available documents on Supportfolio to get answers to your questions. If you are a Developer Plus member, in addition to documents on Supportfolio you can open a Developer Online Consulting (DOC) case and receive advice from an SGI engineer.

Can an SGI engineer help me with debugging of my code as part of DOC support?
No. To obtain hands-on help with your code, you need to purchase support from the SGI consulting organization.

I'm developing my application on non-SGI hardware and I want to make sure my application also works on SGI hardware. Do I need to purchase an SGI system?
No, both Developer Online and Developer Plus members can request access to the program's online systems (hosted by SGI). Applications can be downloaded and tested on the SGI hardware and software. You will need to request an account for the online system.

I have an account on the SGI online system and I need to recompile my application. Are there compilers available on online systems?
Yes, SGI-hosted online systems are equipped with compilers to support such activity.

I've used all five of my DOC cases I was granted when I signed up for Developer Plus. I still need help. How can get additional DOC support?
You can purchase additional DOC support in packs of five pre-paid cases via the online order form.

As a Developer Plus member, I didn't use all of my DOC support cases during the first twelve months after I joined. Now I need DOC Support. What should I do?
Your original CasePack has expired, but you can purchase additional DOC support in packs of five pre-paid cases.

I am a Developer Plus member and I want to purchase discounted SGI hardware . Who can I contact?
As a Developer Plus member, you are entitled to purchase discounted SGI hardware. Please contact your local SGI office with a request for quote. Alternatively, please contact the SGI Developer Program and we will route your request to your closest SGI sales office.
